  • Opened for a couple hours.
    Dark dark ruby red.
Nose is intense. You can see where this wine is going, and it’s impressive honestly. Medium plus weight. Lots of power, lots of structure, feels very young.
Ink, dark chocolate, hint of tar, blueberry skins, blackberry juice, and almost watermelon smell, hint of dill, some tobacco. Slight bitterness to it, maybe due to the youth? Dark olive. Tannins are very strong still. These 13 bonds need another 10 years note for other bottles. Raspberry on the nose. Now curry coming out. Great wine, but I did expect more. I was hoping for a bit more subtle features, but this wine is a bull in a china shop. Great wine, but I wish I waited another 5-10 years. Luckily not my last 2013.

  • I try to make sure I separate the quality of a wine from the setting in terms of enjoyment. Drank this wine with two friends playing pool. No food component really, just the wine, and this wine hit all the marks for 100 pts. Beautiful deep ruby color at 10 years old. Aromas of black currant, black cherry and plum fruit. Mocha, menthol and vanilla. The interplay of all of the tastes and smells was mind boggling. The texture was perfect. The tannins were perfectly integrated. The finish was LONG. I honestly was astounded by this wine. I love when California smacks you in the face with how great it can be, and it was drunk along 2005 chateau Palmer which is no slouch, and it blew it away. Highest recommendation.

  • After the 'disappointing' last time, this was more like the other stellar bottles. Purple to the rim (or very near end). completely opaque, yet brilliant color. Wonderful fruit -- blackberries, currants, plums, minimal tertiary with maybe a wishful whiff of tobacco and cedar, and but clearly a very young wine. Wonderful round, full bodied taste, with still plenty of tannin, but well integrated. Finish lasted well over 45 sec. A monumental red, but is this the outlier? Other scores vary by quite a range. Tasted next to a James Berry Saxum Red and this towered above it. Will last another quarter century with no problem I would suspect. This bottle was a 100. Full stop.

  • Almost purple with maybe a 1 mm amber edge. Coffee, dark fruits. Good blend of fruit and tertiary, but not as concentrated or big as I expected. At least this bottle was not in the same league as Abreu or even Schrader. Maybe in awkward stage and can definitely stay for at least another decade, so maybe try next bottle in 3 to 5. Tasted next to a 2012 Schafer Hillside Select and preferred that though they were very similar.
Too bad as my surname is Bond. Maybe another vineyard?
