Blind Tasting at Roy's: Blind at Roy's: This was classic Grenache cooked red fruits, bubblegum wrapper/powdered sugar, lavender, some herbs and citrus peel. Classic, if not a bit too classic and normal. Not tons of character here with a soft structure. Guessed '98 CdP, but I think '98 would have been a bit more lively and structured.
Very nice CDP, decant for 1-3hrs - this bottle continues to open up as the acidity burns off. Like many CDPs it had a bold nose, a fuller flavor up front with a mellowing medium finish. Pairs well with stinky cheese and red meats.
After a few hours the oxidation blew off allowing for a nice fragrant nose with a mixture of leather and earth. Great structure with the tannins giving way to mineral and some subtle fruit. CDPs continue to not disappoint.
