  • Felt it did improve with air (no decant). In retrospect; it should have been decanted. Like a lot of 2014 CdP’s; an earlier drinking more “charming” vintage. However; lacking some of the concentration and ripeness (as with the 2015 Vintage). Some shades of rasberry, jelly candy Grenache-like aromas and flavors. Did get a bit of Syrah spice. Soft tannins than being green. Felt like a really good Côtes du Rhône Village Red would be equivalent. Not a great value. Just entering its drinkability window.

    Delicieux !

  • Grenache-dominant S. Rhone blend w/ some Syrah and Mourvedre. Med+ ruby/garnet. Med+ red cherry, black cherry, dried plum, dried herbs, earth and savory spices. Interestingly, this is aged for 15 mos in concrete tanks, w/ no oak apparent. Dry, with med acidity, med, resolved tannins and high alcohol (14.5%). Full-bodied, plush, rounded, w/ med to med+ flavor intensity and length. Overall, this is well balanced and quite approachable at 8 yrs. Not likely to improve w/ further aging, but certainly likely to show well for many more years.

  • What a pleasant surprise, this was well balanced and showed no signs of decline

  • In January 2020 I wrote:

"Some details from Chapoutier on La Bernadine 2014:

In ”La Bernardine” red, Grenache is the main grape used in the blend, with a smaller proportion of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Grenache is a grape variety that brings a natural sweetness to the blend, which gives the wine elegance, silky tannins and great finesse.
Traditional vinification is carried out in closed concrete tanks. The vatting period usually lasts for around 3 weeks, at high temperature to ensure the maximum extraction of colour and tannins. Ageing takes place in concrete tanks for 15 months to ensure good oxygenation of the wine, which preserves its freshness and aromas.

1h decant in the glass, which was alright. Crimson red colour. On the palate spicy red fruits (cherries), liquorice, some heat, smooth tannins; not oaky (concrete tanks). Medium to long finish."

2h decant this time. Liked it a tad better than the last bottle. Less heat and spicyness, but everything felt more integrated...
