Bottle #3 of 18. PnP, then savored in glass for a couple hours. This is a young, rich, mineral-laden and complete wine. Just finishing up a 99 M Chiarlo Cerequio, this Beaune has more than an uncanny resemblance to the tar notes on the nose, and the full layered silky cherry-packed and deliciously nuanced secondaries of that Barolo. Warm, fresh-baked cherry cobbler, florals, delicious detail-inducing green notes (some whole cluster?), and hints of ripe-fruited varnish (Grandmother's furniture polish on old wood) balance the clear, bright, super focused, clean, detailed and hidden structure underneath it all. And sneaky length to boot. Packed and stacked, yet impressively suave and supremely elegant, this 05 is just starting its run, and will be phenomenal for 20+ years.
Baby Jesus (Bouchard), Yquem, Madeira, Rhys, RM (John V.'s): Wow. Great showing. Seemed to be a WOTN although we did not formally vote. Ruby/purple in color. Ripe cherry fruit on the nose. A bit of sandalwood. Also some dark cherries as well as some cranberries. Delicious. Great texture. Tight complex layering. This is great right now, but better days are ahead as this unwinds. Long finish. Great balance.
