Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 18 notes)

Tasted by toke_man on 12/25/2009 & rated 93 points: We had this paired with traditional turkey dinner and it was outstanding. It dwarfed another Kistler we had from the same year that night as well. Cream, melon, and butter. An amber hue, but not over the top. All at dinner raved about this one. I can only imagine what it tasted like a few years ago.... (111 views)

Tasted by mchrist on 12/18/2008 & rated 91 points: Very pleasantly surprised with this one. Tasted like a semi mature Chardonnay! Despite some of the oxidized Kistler's I've had from similar vintages, this wine really showed well. Pleasant minerality on the nose, followed by some melon, butter, and apple on the palate. Had this with Mrs. Christ at Poke with some lovely Kumamotos and some VERY tasty mackrel and Red Snapper. Loove their BYO policy. Hope it lasts. (440 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 11/29/2008 & rated 91 points: Remarkable how well this is drinking. Shared with friends and enjoyed by all. (423 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 10/19/2008 & rated 91 points: Rich, with hazelnuts, citrus oil, oak. Great for those who like aged chardonnay, but it is time to finish them up. (450 views)
Tasted by Richard Jennings on 12/20/2007 & rated 91 points: Amber yellow color; honeyed, rich, petrol, vanilla nose; concentrated, oak, burnt honey palate; long finish (65 views)
Tasted by babnik on 11/5/2007: Deep golden color. Spiced apple pie and roasted chestnuts. Slate and river rocks. This is quite possibly the best and most interesting chardonnay I have ever experienced and has put aged Kistlers on my shopping list. (835 views)
Tasted by Mark on 9/12/2007 flawed bottle: Flawed, oxidized. Opened two 98 (Dutton and Durrell), Dutton significantly worse, Durell no much better. (891 views)
Tasted by wpd on 4/30/2007 & rated 91 points: Amazing. Excellent wine-yesterday I had the same wine and it was oxidized and undrinkable. This bottle is very good to excellent with a Mersault-like flavor. Nutty, buttery and complex. (864 views)
Tasted by wpd on 4/30/2007 flawed bottle: oxidized (868 views)
Tasted by Tejano on 2/10/2007 & rated 89 points: Nice rich gold color and a nose on opening that revealed a firm minerality, with light nuances of stone fruit and melon. Bright entry and a rounded middle with a tapered finish showing a nice fruit texture...with enough acidity to balance. This is not over the hill, but may have seen better days. (978 views)
Tasted by lebo on 1/13/2007 & rated 91 points: Deep golden yellow color. Nose of butterscotch, caramel and maybe a little stink / CS when first out of the bottle, but that blew off after the first glass. Pallet very full and round with caramel, butterscotch, mineral & limestone. Very open and fruit forward, but then a very long, thick mid and back pallet with just enough acidity to give it perfect balance. This is drinking much better than the previous bottle we had (Jan. '06), but I still think this is drinking at its prime. Last bottle, and I'm OK with that. (950 views)
Tasted by matthen on 11/24/2006 & rated 88 points: Golden in color. A well aged chardonnay. Aromas of hazelnut and pear with flavors of white chocolate, mineral, tangerine and light cream. This was not as "buttery and creamy" as I have found from younger vintages. The finish is not fascinating or anything worth remembering at this point. (1055 views)
Tasted by Doublebass on 9/19/2006 & rated 87 points: Drink up! (1221 views)
Tasted by jds on 8/7/2006 & rated 89 points: Waited too long-- a mere shadow of what it should have been. The golden color looks great in a glass but the legendary smokiness is a faint whisper. Its not merely just a good chardonney instead of greatness in a bottle. (1181 views)
Tasted by lebo on 1/8/2006 & rated 88 points: Not bad, but getting tired. Drink last bottle soon. (1047 views)
Tasted by Stephan O. on 12/25/2005 & rated 91 points: Burgundian through and through, at least at this age. Though this may have been huge at one point, it tastes like a refined Meursault now. It does show remnants of sweet pineapple, but otherwise I find white chocolate on the nose and a nutty minerality on the palate. The moderately long finish shows vanilla and a sort of lotion-like essence. It's balanced and obviously well-made, but it's not a wine that inspires passion. (1293 views)
Tasted by winefool on 10/1/2005 & rated 92 points: Full yellow color. Full big yellow fruit aroma. Tighish yellow fruit with some spiciness to it. Showing a bit more complexity with the age, but still drinking young. 10/05 (990 views)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
