I’m normally a fan of K Vintners line-up of syrahs including the Phil Lane. This bottle was frankly a little boring. It was good enough average syrah with no faults, just lacking the interest and character I normally get. I haven’t been impressed with how a number of the 2013 syrahs from K Vintners have held up with time, just not a good vintage I think for them nor was it much of a vintage in Washington as a whole. 3- (out of 5)

Bit murky. Deep garnet, med+ meniscus, high visc 40 min dec. Earth on N, with black cherry, black currant, blackberry, slate, gravel and smoked meats. P lighter. Rose, bramble, green herbs, gravel and tobacco. Med+ body, acid, tannins, length & complexity. A bit meatier than the normal Phil Lane but rosy too!

Nice garnet colored with slight bricking around the edges. Aromas of black pepper, plums and blackberries. Flavors of cherries and black fruits with a medium mouthfeel. Good long finish of 60+ seconds. The tannins soften after decanting for two hours and the wine actually held up after being open 24 hours. We enjoyed it with some grilled lamb chops. I think it's at its peak and will last another 3 years.

Popped and poured, enjoyed over 2 days. Sweet black fruit on the attack with notes of tobacco leaf and fig. Finish leaves a lingering bitter dark chocolate flavor. Drink now - 2028.
