  • Tasted blind. Great acidity, ripe nose of red fruit and bacon, very approachable. Notes of graphite and cigar box. One of the softest Pape Clements I’ve had.

  • Very pronounced tertiary flavors - wet wood, leather, cigar box. Structure still sound - good acidity, tannins integrated but still with a bit of chew. Drinking very well now - surprised at the quality given the vintage.

30 minute decant useful but not essential - the wine was singing right out of the bottle.

  • Deep garnet, with significant browning fading edges. Nose intense and flamboyant, with good blackberry depth and leafy stems, deep red florals as well as nutmeg and savoury meats. Tannins mostly smooth whilst giving a little bite, mouthwatering acids, and intensely flavoured of dark florals and blackberry, tree bark and leaf compost, as well as nutmeg and charcuterie. Very lengthy and complex at the back. Lovely wine!

  • Changed a bit over the last 7 years. The bouquet pronounces the tertiary notes with some truffles. But also classic pencil shavings, red meat and some cassis mingle in the flavor profile. The palate is quite precise with nicely integrated tannins.
There is no need to hurry as it is drinking quite nicely right now.

  • Kreuzritter - Vol. 3: Tasted blind. Clearly identifiable as aged Bordeaux. The wine is drinking well but is without exceptionalism due to the lack of precision. And the fruit is on retreat and it is slightly dusty. I would drink up.

TN: Smoke and ash notes - these went from being a feature to fault and back to being a feature. In addition, leather, wet earth, wood and dark fruits. Aromas are fairly intense but precision is sub-par and the fruit is lacking a bit. The wine is still fresh with smooth tannins and a good balance.

Decanting: Decanted for 4+ hours but I guess 1h would do the job.
