  • Not sure what was up with the nose on this wine. Funky nose, but still spice and red fruit on the palate.

  • Getting better with time. Cant believe this isn't a Grand Cru, at least in her hands. It killed an 85 Clos De Tart. What a finish, took almost no time to open, and was still great 2 hours later.

  • Deep, dark and silent with violets and other flowers - very floral. Dark and sweet with hoisin, spice, blue-red fruits, meat. Not an explosive nose, but intensely perfumed and enveloping. Elegant and powerful on the palate, almost salty. Pure and translucent with a huge spice (five spice and such), sweet, and violet component. Has some sort of essence - fruity and meaty or something - a sappy cherry-blood alloy that it utterly transfixing. Still quite young - showing significant structure and tannins. This wasn't as rock-star as my first bottles (probably 18.5/20) but better than my last which showed some green aspects (15-16/20). An excellent showing. I couldn't shake this wine - I kept tasting this in my head the next day. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5/20.

  • Dinner at l'Artusi 7/29/2013 (l'Artusi, NYC): Deep blood, opaque, and just barely a touch of bricking. The nose is huge! Like the underside of a saddle. Very masculine and virile, with leather, mint, black plums, milk chocolate, and a cool menthol note. The palate was, at first, very rustic, tannic, and not unlike the old Chiantis that preceded this wine. Later, with more air, it rounded out, revealing velvet and fine fruit; black raspberry and lovely sweetness. Still youthful, with fine length. Delicious, but I wouldn't call it a great wine, necessarily. No hurry -- this will keep for many, many more moons.

    (Leroy Vosne Romanee 'Les Beauxmonts.') The nose was deep and brooding, classic Leroy with darker fruits, iron and cedar. There was plum, cassis and blackberry fruit. Very rich on the palate, the 1991 had more sweet raspberry flavors, a thick texture and lots of power on its finish. There was a wave of alcohol and tannins that was barely reined in, and long, lingering acidity
