This was the star of our dinner last night. I tasted this at the winery when it was released and I literally wrote "age 10 years" on the bottle. I remember it being very tight and young but with a ton of potential. Welp, it didn't last 10 years in the cellar, but pretty close. When we opened it last night the tannins had mellowed and it showed big beautiful fruit...really a great bottle. I have one more in my cellar that I'll continue to age for a few more years. I wouldn't hesitate to open now though because it's drinking really well.

Notes after two hours open. Dark violet color at the core with a touch of rust at the rim, about 80% opaque and clear body. No sediment. Generous bouquet with lovely florals and perfume, tobacco, spice, blackberries, hot asphalt, vanilla, and crème brûlée. This is a dialed-down Syrah for McP-M, and as such, is more classic and thought provoking. Still has the Paso power and weight, but less an hommage to hedonism and more of a nod to Rhône sensibilities and vintage/vineyard transparency than is usual for this maker. Lovely wine. 5+12+17+8= 92

PNP, drank over 2 nights. Nice nose of black and red fruit, earth, and pepper. Firm tannins and dark, savory fruit on the palate. Nice now, but plenty of life ahead.
