How is this still so good? Fresh berries, some grilled red bell peppers, fresh pipe tobacco. Some tannin and plenty of acidity, this is not only a complete old wine, it's still seemingly at apogee. Better than every Georges de Latour I've ever had.

Casual Friday Dinner with Friends (Booth One - Chicago, IL): Tasted side-by-side with the 70. I preferred the '71 as it delivered a bit more oomph and the tannins had a bit more of an edge. Having said that, both wines had a very similar profile that is classic old school Napa Cab. Loads of cedar, dried tobacco leaf and bell pepper add complexity.

At 46 years, its amazing what this nose offers. It tastes like an old barolo or amarone. Brownish light purple. Light-med body with short finish. But at 11.5% what do you expect? Fruit has really left this one. Good experience nonetheless. Well worth it.

The cork was solid, broke off about an 1/8 of an inch from the end. Wine was very soft, with muted notes of cherry and cigar box. Reminiscent of old Bordeaux past its prime.

Reddish brown color. Fruity vibrancy with a slight funk on the nose. On the tongue it’s youthful with tastes of raspberry and prunes.
