Deep purple with a hint of a ruby rim Some forest floor on the nose, bursting with fruit, blackberries, and plum, along with hints of currant and herbs. Bold red and black fruit flavor, with blackberries, raspberries, smoked meats, and herbs Medium plus acidity, fine grained tannins, dry and full-bodied. This is a wonderfully complex wine with a lot to offer.

Fruit, tannins and oak for this to stay in the cellar for about 20 years. But, with a 3-4 hour decant this was great. Weird how much sediment it has already, had to toss like 1/5 of the bottle even though it was standing up a day prior to consumption. So if possible have it standing for longer. Anyway, not in its prime but after some air not at all closed down or sleeping. I felt I got a good taste of whats coming. Rich with lots of blue/black fruits, pencil shavings, cedar, smoke and leather. Complex yet precise. Hold for 5 years or so.

Decanted two more bottles of the 2015 LP for 1.5 hours and served with a light dinner for six friends at about 58-60 degrees. The first bottle was fantastic- slow to open but followed by blackberry, cassis, and hints of licorice and tobacco, smooth tannins and nice acidity, with a delicious finish and perfect balance overall. One the best bordeaux that I have had in years.
The second bottle was also served decanted for 1.5 hours, but is was very different. More open on the nose than the first bottle, the same flavors that were so enjoyable in the first bottle were suddenly overwhelmed by waves of acidity. Very frustrating, and although “drinkable”, nobody asked for a second glass.
Both bottles where purchased from the same retailer, and stored next to each other in my temperature controlled cellar. Both corks looked perfect, but the difference in acidity was even noticeable on the cork.
I’ve had three three bottles of the 2015 LP over the past 18 months. The first bottle opened in the fall of 2022 had of all the right pieces for a perfect wine, but there was little harmony, as though the ingredients had yet to blend together. The other two bottles are noted above- My conclusion is that the 2015 Leoville-Poyferre has issues of consistency, and although some bottles are fantastic, we shouldn’t have to open two or three bottles to get a decent wine.
My first mistake was not checking the community notes before uncorking another bottle. Comparatively, it didn't offer the same level of drinkability we had in '22 and I was a little disappointed, due to knowing what it could have been and eventually will be. The wine felt tightly wound, with suppressed aromas. Despite a one-hour decanting before heading to the restaurant and additional aeration throughout the night, it didn't have sufficient time to fully open up. In my opinion; if one chose to open a bottle, I would recommend a minimum of 4 hours. The vintage holds great promise, but did not match the enjoyment of the bottle last year. Definitely will be cellar the remaining bottles for years to come. Scoring a 92 at this time, definitely has the potential of 94+ once it's in its window.

Similar to prior, showing promise but still in need for a few years to finish eating its oak.
