  • Second bottle of 3 and similar notes to the prior bottle months ago, this being incrementally preferred (94-95+ if scoring vs. 94++), but that likely being more me than any bottle differences/maturity. Writing to reiterate that for my palate 1) no decant needed, although air didn’t hurt, either, with consistent notes over 3 nights, and 2) this is bang on in its drinking window, and while likely to hold a while, a while here is more like 5-7 years than the 15-20 others have suggested. Absolutely sang with a veal chop, and also a great drink on its own. More delineation would take it up a level, but nothing to feel bad about here, especially at its price point. This vintage really proving the screamer it was predicted to be, even if it took just a little longer than hoped.

  • Blackberry, plum and black currant above a robust mineral floor. Beautiful garnet color. Mild nose of plum. Rich mouth, full bodied, but continues to come home to a soft tannin, clean rich finish. Oh, yeah, can cellar for lots more years.

  • First of my six pack. upon opening, the aroma was blueberry compote, cassis and violet. Two hour decant in ETO. One of the heaviest of the Howell Mountain wines from this winery I've tasted. After two hours, the primary fruit was tied tightly with earth, wood and spice notes. Long taste held together with prominent tannin. Drank the first night over two hours and the wine mellowed and the nuances of the secondary and tertiary notes began to emerge.

I used the ETO to take the air out and stored at 55 degrees. Finished two nights later. This wine evolved into a complex, almost Bordeaux style wine. This wine should definitely jump up 2-4 points over the next decade. I will wait at least one year before cracking open another. This wine is an amazing wine at a great price.
