cellar diving! Sort of forgot this one. Screw cap in fine shape. Still with a dark color, no oxidation. Slightly medicinal nose - cough syrupy, not offensive and I suspect the higher alcohol played a role. Palate was okay with some muted black fruit, dry, little finish. The things that persist in these cheap wines are the alcohol and residual sugar. This wine is thankfully without the sugar.

This was the first wine I had that blew me away. The lightbulb went on with this one and made me love wine. My epiphany wine. Let's see how it is doing now. Aromas of dark jammy fruit. Similar flavors on the palate but not as explosive as I remember. A dusty leather component is lurking in the background. The ripe black fruit really comes out on the finish as some tannin has dropped off. Still a very good wine, but needs to be consumed soon. That is something I can do.

(Henry's Drive Pillar Box Red) Group's #5 (my #7) – 43 pts.; 1, 0, 0, 2 – opaque magenta color; somewhat savory, charcoal, graphite and green herbal nose, that changes to roasted plum and tar nose; tart black fruit, tight, charcoal and oregano palate; medium finish
(PILLAR BOX RED) #1; COLOR-huge, ridiculous, dark purple; NOSE-really vibrant, lot of black licorice, black cherry, chocolate covered strawberries, TASTE-Wow, that is a BIG wine, loaded w/ black pepper, little raspberry and crème de cassis, MASSIVE black cherry, really long finish, enjoy the vanilla on the mid-palate to the finish, stucture quite profound for an $8 bottle, SCREAMING value, New World fruit bomb; RP-91; GV-89/90

Deep purple color, spicy meaty nose, good balance, probably a little too old but still pretty nice

Decanted for an hour and drank over a 3 hour period
Colour: Dark pitch red
Nose: Intense concentrated dark fruit, slight roasted peppers, earthiness and a little alcohol
Taste: Intense pure fruit of cherries, plums and currants. Brick, toast and spice notes were detected as well. Long finish and full bodied.
Overall very delicious but not mind blasting.
