This bottle was tough to get a handle on as it was the most grape tasting of any wine in recent memory. Funny how we drink wine but rarely does it ever taste like grapes. This wine did. It was fun to drink, went well with hearty italian food but was fairly simple and 'grapey'. Others agreed who tried it.

Poppe and poured. Pinot like nose, more berry and cherry than bacon/pepper and sauvage notes. The mouthfeel is generous but in a restrained way, not big or showy in any way. Drinking well today, this shows no sign of fading and should evolve positively for a few years.

Nose opened over the course of an hour. After starting rather taught, a nice bouquet of blackberry, blueberry, plum, emerged, accented by espresso, smoke, and whited pepper. A touch of greenness was present, which detracted a bit. Fairly light body on the palate, medium finish. Tannins were a bit course for the medium body. Nice cooler climate syrah. No heaviness or alcohol, a refreshing change these days...

(Dehlinger Syrah) Group's #3 (my #5) – 52 pts.; 3, 7, 1, 3 - dark red violet color; black fruit, vanilla oak, baked raspberry nose, that changes over time to pepperoni nose; narrow oak, herbal, chickory, pepper sausage palate; medium-plus finish (has declined quite a bit from when I last sampled it three years ago)
(Dehlinger Syrah) Group's #4 (my #5) – 37 pts; 0, 2, 3, 0 – olive and peppery nose, with orange peel and vanilla notes; somewhat tight, with some of the same roasted fruit and tangy pepper notes as the others; medium finish 90+ pts.

Holding up well. Showing nice balance and fruit for its age.

Restrained but great flavor. Getting better with age and no sign it is fading.
