Another one of those "I'm not expecting much" wines that left me pleasantly surprised. Fresh purple looking, dusty aromas, a little flat until after an hour or so in the glass, then assertively rounded out with fruit and noticeable but not obstrusive tannin. Very enjoyable with roast chicken.

PNP. The nose was impressive: balanced meaty black fruit, markedly floral, with spices and hints of sweat and iron. There was good viscosity on the palate, with some bite to the tannins and a medium finish. A solid wine. This wine was purchased on release and stored under temperature control. Drinking well now.

A bit acidic with dark fruit character and at first tannic. Oak is gone and so was all drinkability with the remainder wine the second day. Well past prime - Drink now.

Got a lot of oak on the nose when we first opened this and poured it into decanter. However, by the time we had our first glasses an hour later, that pronounced oakiness had disappeared. The wine is almost tart, with plenty of acidity. This is more about bright and sour cherries than I expected -- none of the dense fruit and jamminess of many Aussie shiraz wines. There's even a citrus element on the finish, which nicely extends the fruitiness. There is a touch of tobacco, but if I focus too much I lose it. Not overly complex, but very flavorful. We're enjoying this wine quite a bit.

(EUORA CREEKS Shiraz (special)) Friday SPECIAL Dear Friends, If feminine grace over massive substance sounds like your style and you are still willing to give Shiraz a chance, here you go (at less than the cellar door price in Oz). What happens when Cote Rotie jr meets Victorian Pinot Noir? The 2004 Euroa Creeks Shiraz Victoria - cold climate ripeness personified and a wine that proves all Shiraz are not created equal. With its Burgundian texture and sappy red fruit/melted Syrah personality, it wouldn’t surprise me if some tasters thought this was Central Otago Pinot Noir with a twist of cool-climate Syrah thrown in (it is indeed 100% Shiraz). The silky presence and bright style are awfully enticing but the wine provides the veiled impact of Syrah as well in a very rare example (even in Australia): ” This makes for a very interesting Friday Special as it is far more cerebral than most would give Shiraz credit for. To bring this to you under $20, we had to cash in a favor Down Under so take advantage. Only 250 cases produced and only 50 for the US. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a unique and complex take on a varietal that has gained a bad rap among most US collectors: ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price with perfect provenance directly form the source 2004 Euroa Creeks Shiraz Central Victoria (WA/NR) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus8390
