  • Supper and Drinks at Deep Sea Garoupa (Yuan Wei Deep-Sea Garoupa, Serangoon Road): I enjoyed this very much. This was an unashamedly new world rendition which somehow spoke of its terroir without being spoofy or over-sweet. It had a lovely nose, with lots of flowers accents framing ripe aromas of cherries and raspberries, a bit of plums, and some more earthy, minerally scents. Very pretty. The palate had a veneer of sweet, ripe thickness which was clearly new world, but there was also a nice, juicy balance to its ripe flavours of cherries and cranberries, which made for a very had a yummy mouthful. As on the nose, the fruit was interwoven with a good lick of smoky minerality and a little earthiness, especially towards the finish. This lent the wine a nice sense of burgeoning complexity and interest. While at a good place now, it should continue to develop in the bottle nicely over the next few years. Very nice - a good counterpoint for the more austere but equally good 1998 Corton on the same flight.

  • Medium red color. Mature aromas of red fruits, wet earth and spice. Medium-bodied fruit in the mouth with very good balance and structure. Still has some charm but time to drink up.
