Dinner at Amali (Amali, NYC): Initially this comes across a little brooding and surly compared to the Morey, it's not as fragrant, the fruit's deeper in complexion and it's more savoury, but it also shows a more powerful tannic spine. With air though this really opens out, building a wonderful fragrance combining red and dark fruits, gentle spicy accents and lower toned earthy elements, and it starts to show more depth and complexity on the palate as the tannins ease up with time in the decanter. The last sips might be the most compelling, and this is really wonderful.
