The color is stronger than the 1982 I had last night, a light but quite healthy tawny brick red. The wine very slightly hazy, this is an early work on doing unfiltered wine. The nose is all Pinot and very intense, in the mouth the acid is adequate but the tannin is very soften and the linger is all Pinot flavors and acid. Overall a lovely wine. FYI The ullage at opening was 1/2" below the cork, cork was completely sound. The bottle has been in my cellar since it left the winery 25 years ago.
Mahogany core, burnt brick rim. Overripe strawberries, banana custard, and oranges on the floral bouquet. The palate is showing fatigue but exhibits a pleasant hint of strawberries and a whiff of spice. Tapers off rather quickly.
Tasting of 4 Red Burgundy and 4 California Pinot Noir. Was bacon, rich cherry nose that was forward with light fruit in the mouth, had a slight acid, tart finish with a nice aftertaste. Seventh place, Group #5.
