Double decanted. Initially very dry and earthy. Full bodied but not heavy at all and balanced. Subtle fruit appeared and paired great with lamb chops. Still a few years from prime drinking but enjoyable now. Finished last glass 4 hours after opening and remained strong to the end.
This was tasted side by side with a '00 Cuvee Classique...the Classique was all sweaty saddle leather whereas this was minty and herbal on the nose - showing little fruit. The palate was medium + bodied, with some smoky red fruits and a compelling herbal note on the finish. Honestly, this was tasty wine - and showing pretty young - but I would never have guessed "Mourvedre" or Bandol....with the '00, it was clearly Mourvedre, but this bottle could have passed for a Western Australian Cabernet with all the minty herbal freshness. It was delicious and I wish I had more of it to watch the evolution over the next decade....maybe this bottle was an anomaly, but it was still interesting to taste and delicious.
Youthful dark ruby. Sweet red fruit. Young. Perfect balance. Excellent. Long finish, still tannic. Not quite ready yet, but still very enjoyable with a hour decant and food. Will be a treasure some day. My ideal wine. Wonderful.
