  • Deep yellow. Secondary aromas and honeyed apple. Glycerine, light to medium weight, quite sweet. The fruit is a mix of bright red apple and ripe yellow peach with modest acidity but a bit of slate toward the end. Enjoyable for the purity of fruit but simple and easygoing.

  • Deep yellow gold. The nose is effusive, with some tropical fruit - pineapple maybe - along with juicy green apple. Not much mineral definition to the aromas right now. The palate is big and somewhat viscous, with prominent sweetness and acidity that's still buried under the layers of fruit. This seems like a successful '05 balance-wise, but like many wines from the vintage, it's still lacking much nuance due to the ripe fruit. This may change with some more time, hard to say at 15 years in the bottle. It's a very fund wine to drink, to be sure, just not terribly complex right now.

  • Deep yellow. Floral, orchard fruit, and some early mature Riesling notes (aka petrol). Clean, without botrytis. Light to medium weight, moderate residual sugar that seems proper for a Spätlese. Wonderful spiced apple, some herbs and white flowers, decent acidity, very good length. Not particularly remarkable for its cut or stoniness, but the depth and succulence of the fruit save the day and make this a completely enjoyable bottle now and over the intermediate term.

  • Really great stuff, always can depend on Selbach. White peach and flowers, great viscosity and a long finish, all backed by solid acids. In a nice place but lots of life left.
