Naysayers proven wrong. Ten years and still going strong. Was a bargain when I bought it and it is still holding up well. Big nose, high alchohol, weighty almost syrupy mouthfeel so popular then. Lots of plum - almost pruney on the nose - not from age I suspect, but more from the ripeness when picked. Not super complex, but there is enough going on to hold palate interest. A bygone style that many, including me, have moved away from, but still a nice bottle with some smoked pulled pork slathered with Gates Original BBQ sauce.
PnP. Surprisingly fresh and vibrant. Even though it reminded me why I am not drinking much Aussie Shiraz these days it is still a nice wine. Big powerful black fruit flavours. Long finish. Just a bit OTT and not very food friendly except with the dark chocolate truffles.
