The cork was depressed and corroded, and the nose had a notes of vinyl and wax. Despite these flaws, the port was intact. It still had plenty of life in it, tawny colored, nutty and full-bodied without being cloyingly sweet. After an hour the plastic smells blew off a bit.
1970 is a great year for vintage ports, and while Burmester isn't a top shipper, this was a fine example.
