Charity Wine Pairings for Hospice House Auction winners; 4/6/2024-4/7/2024 (Bellingham): This was the anniversary year for two couples who had joined us. Decanted for a couple of hours. Served with Japanese seared A5 Waygu ribeyes. This was another bottle in which the color and sweet aromas defied its age. Far more ruby than amber, the age only suggested by the clear meniscus. More blackberry and cherry than tertiary forest floor, cedar. Fresh and lively, just delicious. Apparently, no one alerted this bottle that 1993 was an uncelebrated vintage.

Started off with a broken cork, but continuing with interesting yet subdued aromas of an old musty brick building with hints of cherry. This 30 year old wine still has life and was very enjoyable on this summer evening paired with a Charcuterie board. The flavours of berry, chocolate and coffee where present and deliciously subtle. Although tannins were present they were very well balanced and very enjoyable. This full body nicely balanced wine finished with a pleasant and lingering finish. Drink soon, but there is still beautiful life in this vintage.

(Château Clinet) Restrained, earthy menthol nose with a little raisin; very tart palate with an earthy edge, tomato notes and dusty tannins; medium finish (85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc)

Still very drinkable, surprising for 30 years old from a not very good vintage.
Decanted for one hour, still good after another hour in the glass.

Decanted 1 hr, served with baked peppers filled with sausage, still enjoyable wine nearing the end of the drinking plateau.
