I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I considered this outstanding- when considering quality, age, and price.

  Last bottle. Anise with some dark fruit on nose. Wine has lost complexity but is very drinkable. Weak finish with chocolate notes. Not unpleasant.

  Dark ruby colour. Very expressive nose of red fruits mixed with spice and a touch of vanilla. Very smooth mouth feel. Medium to full bodied. Tannins fade to reveal a round plush drink that appears to be at peak drinking and should stay that way for another 5 years. This wine is rich with a thick plummy taste. Pomerol fans will especially appreciate this wine. This is not the soft and syruppy CA style that gave Merlot a bad reputation. Drank with Prime Rib and made a delicious combination.
