not good, might have been flawed so NR... acidic (and I love acidic wines) and somewhat harsh with no appealing fruit or spice... tried it on day two and was slightly better but still felt either totally shut down or 'gone for good'

Wine swap with Clarence. Drank in Grassl Cru. Apearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Lges. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of toast/smoke, tobacco ash, dark meat, dark earth, black cherries, dark red cherries, redcurrant/dark currant/boysenberries, warm spices. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), structured medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, black cherries, concentrated dark currant compote, warm spices, chocolatey earth + savoury dark meat, smoke toast oak integrating. Long pleasing finish. Rounded mouth-feel with sweet fruits. Very good quality. Ambitiously made, and in a great ripe year. Nice to drink now as it has begun its integration, and will last a good 8-10 years more too.

No flaws, but to me it is all about the vintage. I have no grasp remotely of why this happens, but it does. Great red burgundy vintages where the stars align and the ratings are high turn out to be either a dull if you will vintage or a bright fruit vintage (which describes 1985, my all time favorite red burg vintage). To me, 2005 is turning out to be a dull vintage - plenty of fruit, beautifully balanced, but just dull.

One of my last Cru Burgundy from the wine job. I will miss these wines.
Color. Pale red. Very little brick, if any.
Nose. Kirsch, cherries, cinnamon, clove, crayons, cinnamon red hot candies.
Palate. Smooth, balanced, some tannins, cherries, red candy. So f'ing great.

Fruit; coarse; starts smooth; tough pointy back end; decent sweet fruit finish.
