Bring a Barolo or Brunello... or any good red (Broders): We drank the 1997, the 2006 and the 2010 in a flight. Unfortunately, it was hot in the restaurant, the 1997 and the 2006 were fairly warm, and my 2010 was just at temperature. After we cooled down the 1997 and the 2006, they really all performed at my expectation level, with the exception that it was a hot humid day and we were drinking brunello. The 1997 had a fair amount of complexity, and had lost some fruit. The 2006 was in the zone - perfect. The 2010 was tasty, and even with a 3 hour decant, was still quite exuberant. The 2010 actually had more of a savory vegetable compote flavor mixed in with the fruit. It's hard to pick favorites here, more of what you prefer to drink - young, middle-aged or mature. I honestly did not have a favorite.

A nice, smooth, mature profile. Cherries and balsamic with copious notes of cedar. Pretty textbook stuff. Not as charged and deep and wound up as many 97's but softening out beautifully.

Don't decant and wait. Pop and pour it through an aerator. A classic bottle of Brunello. Not extraordinary but rock solid.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (Porter Creek, Mpls, MN): There is corked, and then there is corked... either way it blows, but man, this was really corked. Too bad, I was looking forward to trying it.

The palate opens up after about 30 minutes to show some fruit and cherries. The nose is subtle, dark, leathery. It's good, but nothing special.
