  • Found this bottle in my cellar unexpectedly. A $15 purchase. Opened this 11 year old wine over the weekend with friends. Drank over 2 days. Dry. Only slight nuances of petrol. Grapefruit notes. 87 points.

  • I opened another bottle over the weekend for a CWM offline. Very pretty nose. Dry style and food friendly. Similar notes as before. I liked this bottle better though. 90-91 points.

  • Classic Catoir Muscat. Never the most showy version of this variety, the Catoir expression of Muscat relies more on the herbal side of the grape than on its flamboyantly floral side. Still there was some floral expression, as well as orange and lots of basil. In fact we had some of this with a pesto preparation and hte match was fantastic. Drink up now if you have any. It's not going to get better, as Muscat normally just loses fruit as it ages.

  • Terry Theise claims that Muller-Catoir makes the best Muscat in all of Germany and gave this wine "++" (an extremely high rating for a Kabinett level wine). Dr.T came into town so I opened this bottle with him and my wifes family Sunday before dinner. I opened this bottle about 30 minutes before drinking it but did not decant it. It was a clear pale straw color. It possessed some CO2 as tiny bubbles were present in the glass as it sat (no real spritziness to speak of though). This wine was dry as the label stated. Notes of lime, gravelly stone and some spices. Understated and a rather nice food wine. Fresh long finish. 89-90 points.

  • This German estate is among the elite white wine producers in the world. Especially in 2001 and prior years when Hans-Gunther Schwarz was making the wine. This estate is located in the warm Pfalz region and has the reputation as the premier producer in the area. The wines are comparably priced for their reputation.
I found a few bottles of the this Kabinett marked down to $20 from $36 and bought them. Still a bit pricey for German wine (especially considering that this is a Muskat and not even a Riesling). However, Terry Theise claims that Muller-Catoir makes the best Muscat in all of Germany and gave this wine "++" (an extremely high rating for a Kabinett level wine).

Rockss and Fruit

(Muller-Catoir Haardter Burgergarten Muskateller Kabinett Trocken.) The Muskataller was singing with notes of pure orange blossom, lime, cilantro and serious dense minerals. Palate was complex and stony with great acidity and serious extract. Real nice.
