  • Lunch tasting flight (6) at Olivier Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet: Very fresh for a seven year old wine, I would not have guessed this at all. Acidity really very much to the fore here. Like fresh apples, made me suck my teeth. Reminded me of a younger Aligoté for some reason, likely that killer sharp streak, but with a slightly fatter core that just helped to keep this within limits. I had a bottle of Alain Gras Saint Romain 2015 a few days back which was much more balanced, and consequently much better.

  • Drinking really well right now, perfect balance between integrated oak, still that bracing freshness that I like in a chardonnay, fruit is slightly faded but there is no real oxidation or fatigue. Some ammonium on the back end but it does not disturb. Still lemony and with excellent oak treatment. They do that really well at this firm.

I compare this to a Lioco Estero 2015 chardonnay I drank a few days ago and this has even longer finish and more acidity, whereas it is also slightly thinner mid palate wise and not as complex as the Estero. I don't think this is a wine to save for too many years. Don't drink too chilled.
