Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 11 notes)

Tasted by Yamadori on 12/16/2009 & rated 90 points: Great nose of dark fruit, tobacco and earth. Medium bodied and silky smooth in the mouth with lots of fruit and a little chocolate showing. Medium length finish with fully resolved tannins. Very good cab which is drinking well right now and seems to have plenty of life left. Another very good Bob Egelhoff wine. (153 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 5/25/2009 & rated 89 points: Very nice cab, typical of the 1999 vintage. (292 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 2/7/2009 & rated 92 points: Gentle, pleasing aromas of loamy earth, old leather, blackcurrant and anise. Wonderful texture on the palate, almost chewy. The flavors matched the aromas with the addition of a mocha note. Excellent length and integrity on the finish where the mild, ripe tannins add a little grip. Some interesting complexities and Bordeaux characteristics. I will leave my last bottle alone for 2-3 years. (293 views)
Tasted by otisabdul on 12/17/2008 & rated 92 points: Fragrant with pickling spices and camphor. Some Bordeaux-like characteristics. Silky with a long finish. In its prime. Better than the '99 Caymus and '99 CSJ Cinq Cepages we drank next to it. (390 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 11/24/2007 & rated 91 points: Dark berry, tobacco, anise and chocolate flavors in well structured package. Fine tannins. Drinking beautifully. (571 views)
Tasted by Zingrrl on 11/11/2007 & rated 91 points: Agree with previous reviewer. Tannins are indeed resolved. Smooth dark fruit with slight hints of coffee and maybe chocolate. I also noticed a bit of cranberry, but may have been influenced by the meal of tenderloin filet, asparagus, and garlic bread. Have two bottles left, will be sad when these are gone. (666 views)
Tasted by Phin on 7/14/2007 & rated 92 points: Great fruit integrated with a concentration of spice and smooth tannins. (710 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 6/2/2007 flawed bottle: Corked (704 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 6/1/2007 & rated 91 points: Best showing yet. Tannins are now almost fully resolved. Lots of fresh crushed raspberry and blackberry, loamy earth, leather. Medium bodied and full of energy. The sound acids should allow it to continue improvement over the next 3-4 years. (710 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 2/26/2006 & rated 90 points: This wine was a tannic beast just 18 months ago. This time (after 3 hours of decanting) the tannins were much softer, leaving a wine of moderate intensity and good balance with just a little sweetness in its blackcurrant fruit. Nice but a little simple. It will be interesting to see if another couple of years brings forth some complexity. (975 views)
Tasted by amred on 9/19/2005 & rated 88 points: 5/05: Bought on advice of Cannery Wine Cellars. The first bottle struck us as nothing extraordinary, not unlike review. Given the price, not a great value. May need a bit more time, hopefully fruit will emerge and tannins will soften. (1083 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
