  • Stunning from the moment the bottle was opened. Peaches, spices, apple pie, butter. lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, pineapple, hint of smoke, and tangerine peel, with an intense and endless aftertaste. This is extraordinary. This wine was a reddish amber, so, if this bottle was typical, I'd suggest opening any of these in your cellar as soon as is reasonably convenient. [Tasted over several hours from the Jancis Robinson glass.]

  • Deep clear amber color; apricot, orange, slight honey flavor. Not a real heavyweight- just about right in my view. Definitely a wonderful drink now. Not familiar with how long such wine stays on plateau (like Sauternes) but seems wonderful now.

  • 50th Birthday Tasting (Vesterbro): Peach and quince flavors mixed with a touch of minerals and a honey-like sweetness. It is not overly sweet and is quite lovely and refreshing. Seems to be mature but will stay at this level for quite some time. Very lovely wine!

  • beautiful orange color, soaring nose of citrus and cream, waves of lemon, on the palate a fresh grass note to start leading quickly into beautifully ripe pineapple, pear and crabapple notes, honeyed throughout but not excessively so, fine length and just as seamless and elegantly effortless as it was in youth, with time it developed light notes of treacle and white chocolate reminiscent of Chateau d’Yquem, I was just starting in wine retail when Zind-Humbrecht really got popular in the US with the 93s and 94s, many said they would never age- and I agreed after a 1993 SGN encounter a decade ago (the wine was still good but had not evolved), but this wine certainly proves me quite wrong, this has in fact aged brilliantly and still retains some of the best aspects of its youth, a great experience as well as a fine trip down memory lane.

****, ready to drink and I would drink soon, though the wine shows no signs of tiring

  • Golden, rich
The wine looks caramel colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like guava and melon. It tastes like honeysuckle.

(Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris "Clos Windbsuhl" Vendange Tardive) Huge nose of apricot, orange marmalade and some flint. This just smelled like it was going to be very sweet. It was on the palate but had just enough acidity on the back end to prevent it from becoming formless and ponderous. This was massive and extremely concentrated. Something I could only drink a glass of but what a lovely glass it was.

(Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive) Golden amber color; mineral and dried apricot nose; mineral, dried apricto, peach, mango palate with lots of depth, focus and purity; long finish (not the powerhouse the '94 Z-H PG Clos Saint Urbain VT is)
