Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Cherry-red color with some transparency. On the nose, this shows brett. in the form of horse sweat. On the palate, this is merely bretty (as opposed to bretty and reduced, as often is the case with Clos E., I'm finding). If a little brett doesn't bother you, this is actually one of the more successful 1997's from Oregon that I've had. The fruit underneath is sweet, the tannins are ripe and very well integrated, and this shows a good balance of acid, tannin, and alcohol. Unfortunately for me, the brett. is hard to get past and really prevents this from being special.

Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass with some brownish twinges here and there, fairly clear hue throughout. Earthy nose of peet, camphor, forest floor and a bit of popcorn. Bright berry flavors on the palate with some added notes of cherries. Medium acidity, resolved tannins, light to medium body. Drink now. No rating only because we let this bottle go a little longer than we should have so it was in decline as a result.
