The bouquet was a display of dusty florals, hints of dark spices, dried cherry, minerals and soil tones. On the palate, I found a soft expression of ripe strawberry, cherry and cedar, before giving way to a mix of racy acidity and tannin. The finish was structured and long with resonating dark red fruits and caking minerality. The ‘12 Cannubi transcends the vintage through the Altare style and while I may not want to bury this deep in the cellar, I’d be happy to have it at my table any night of the week.

2012 Barolo: Grace Under Pressure Masterclass (Del Posto Restaurant, NYC): [Second vintage for them in Cannubi on a 5-year rental. First wine they used no rotofermenter. They used traditional punch down.] Cherry vanilla nose. Rich, smooth. Medium cherry vanilla finish. Very well-made wine, but Cannubi is hidden beneath new oak at this stage. Hard to judge.

How much 2012 Barolo is too much 2012 Barolo (Noize): I thought this just showed too much oak to really see any Cannubi sense of place. Not my thing.

2012 Vinous Master Class in Barolo (Del Posto, New York): A round and fleshy version, more finesse than power, with silky tannins. Not the best typicity, but pretty enjoyable.
