Just opened after the 2006 biale black chicken. This is good. This has the brickey color of older wine. Good solid nose of fruit and zin spices. On palate a bit tight ( i just openend). But finish is good. Very much inline with black chicken but there is more structure here. Good finish.
10 years of bottle aging did this wine well. Nor ordinarily a big Calif. zin fan, but this one was superbly balanced along with copious amounts of fruit and enough acidity to be food friendly. A terrific pour for Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving Miscellany with a Domestic Turkey (Los Gatos, California): Magnum. Even, medium red. Whiskey barrel wood aromatics. Still has red fruit that is very much alive, but a thin, astringent, high acid feel to it. Ironically, in some ways very much like the Beaujolais that was poured before it, but this just did not work for all of the wood there. My first (and worst) Zinfandel of the year.
