Double decanted two hours before service. Medium red color. Initially a palate of tart acid. As it sat in the glass over the hour, it opened up nicely to a very fruity nose and the palate had some good fruit. But that said, I was pretty disappointed as I expect a lot more out of grenache than this wine is giving. Much too light for its potential.

Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (R&D’s): Double blind. Lighter in color with some bricking, this appears to have a little age. Opens with an herbaceous aroma with tired red fruit and hints of worcestershire sauce as well. Almost tastes oxidized, but there’s some red fruit hiding in there, but with an unpleasant sour note on the finish. This wine changed more than any other in the flight over the forty or so minutes we spent with it. The red fruit came forward and the oxidized notes faded. Soy, red berry fruit and tomato leaf qualities. I was thinking grenache, but placing it as mid 2000s southern Rhone. (J&J)

Brownish magenta. Raspberry puree, hot spice, and tar nose. Medium to full bodied, dirty cranberries, crushed walnuts, black cherries, woody tannins, smoke, and a long, barrel-aged finish. No easy drinking, strawberry flavored summer wine here.

30 minute decant. Wonderful bright red fruits, still going strong.

Great the first day, but turned a bit sour 24 hours later.
