Initially, thought that the fruit had faded. But after a little time in the decanter, it opened up and there was still nice dark fruits. Nice tannins. Took a three hour break. Last glass had lost much of the fruit, but was even smoother. Spicier. Still very nice. No longer the fruit bomb we thought on release.
Nose of black cherry, black pepper, and a hint of vanilla & herbs maybe. The palate is starting to lack a bit on the fruit, though the black cherry & other dark fruits are integrated well. More predominant is a green pepper/herbaceous/tobacco flavor. Decent structure, mild tannins, and a somewhat short finish. Glad I opened my last of this vintage tonight, saving my '05s for later.
