Very spicy and smoky. Stylistically between the Northern Rhone syrah and the new world shiraz. Very concentrated but not over the top. Would buy again.

Wines of Elgin Shiraz/Syrah Tasting (Cape Town Law offices): (Tasted Blind): Mid Ruby in colour. Aromas of brambles, briary notes, wood smoke, and redcurrants with edges of mineral and smashed stones. A bigger, bolder profile on entry gives the impression of a fuller body despite its 13.5% alcohol content. Concentrated and with power, there is a core of brambles and fleshy fruits. The tannins are a little edgy and sinewy, and the acid pushed through with a mineral-note enhanced by a hot spice on the finish. I quite enjoyed the wine. Still young and doesn’t have the length at present and would like acid to integrate better.

Wonderfully approachable - deep red garnet, smooth medium bodied red with fragrant nose and well integrated tannins

Rich, well balanced, with beautiful dark fruit, and a long lingering finish. A great South African Syrah.
