  • From 750ml. Level VTS. Decanted and served immediately. Heavy sediment. Wine was cloudy with fine sediment. Brick red colour with a faint brown edge. Lots of coffee on the nose, bitterness and some acrid notes. Palate was similar but with the balance only an exceptional vintage can achieve. We were almost prepared to bail out at this point but decided to wait in case it improved, fully expecting it to collapse. One hour later and this wine hit its stride. The nose had come together revealing a Margaux elegance and the palate lost the bitterness. Most of the fruit had gone but this was elegant, aged Bordeaux and drinking well and with a medium length and integrated finish. This wine was a real surprise; I guess a great vintage, good terroir and an hour to breathe can bring a wine back from the brink (sometimes!). Thanks to my brother for sharing this.
