Not decanted. This is at peak, so drink now or for another 2-3 years. The tannin has melted away to reveal dark fruit and spice. Surprisingly fruity for a 16-year-old wine. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Violet in color. 14.4% ABV. 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 6% Malbec. Powerful nose of black fruits, smoke and graphite. Medium to full bodied with medium acidity. Big and plush with resolved tannins. Blackberry, black cherry and currants on the palate. The finish is long and silky. For me the wines from Betz age ever so slowly. At 15 years of age this one is finally ready to go. Best over the next several years.

Black and blue berry aromas with cassis and sweet spice. Black fruit flavors are fresher than I expected with nicely integrated tannins. Moderate length. There is an oddly hollow point in the middle that was a slight detraction.

Mineral and earth, blackberry and tobacco, leather and dust. Very resolved--the last and best of six bottles purchased on Winebid for a ridiculous $10 ea about eight years ago, and which seem to have aged on a faster curve than some I've read about here. So I got an advance look, you might say, at what 289 of you are still waiting for--and it's very much worth the wait.

This is super young and there's still a lot of tannin to work through, but it has a natural, fluid/supple feel and it should come good, not that it isn't great to drink right now, which it is. Very compact, full wine, stuffed with what will in a few years become really expressive flavor of the cassis, leather, game variety.

(Betz Family Winery Pere de Famille Columbia Valley) A lively, complex nose that can be smelled over a foot away after pouring. Deep, dark fruit swirl around earth, cedar, black pepper, and anise - a virtual wine wheel. On the taste, a gigantic wine with gripping tannins and an absolutely gorgeous mouthfeel. An hour after decanting it refuses to be tamed. 77% Cabernet; 17% Merlot; 6% Malbec. Klipsunb, Ciel du Cheval, and Alder Ridge vineyards. 14.4% alcohol. 705 cases produced.
