  • This wine had a brilliant yellow center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose offered up citrus, marzipan, white stone, white flowers, and honey.

In the mouth, this was ripe and gorgeously integrated with great acidity and length. It was refined but fantastically flavorful. It held up in the decanter for 10+ hours.

Wow this bottle was nails. Enjoy over the next 5+ years

  • From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The nose was uncharacteristically low intensity at first. It gain a bit of volume with 5 hours of air and displayed light citrus, honey, and white stone.

In the mouth, this was lean and crisp with good weight, acidity, and length. It certainly gained weight and intensity with 6+ hours of air.

I am not sure why this bottle was somewhat muted. Was it the tiniest bit corked? If so it was so little I can't really say it was flawed. This was not a great bottle of this wine which can be stunning.

This wine seemed lean and underwhelming at first.

  • From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a yellow center and clear rims. The high intensity nose was classic Raveneau showing oyster shell, citrus, honey, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was so ripe and rich that even the substantial acidity it sported seemed to be in the background. But then, after you swallowed, the flavors expanded and hung in your mouth for at least 60 seconds. As the wine aired, the acidity got bigger and bigger and more integrated.

This mind boggling wine is just coming into its drinking window. It will only get better over the next 5 to 10 years (I have added an extra point for future evolution given my long history with this producer)!

  • Pre Auction Wine Tasting w/ lots of Bordeauxs (NYC): Medium yellow color. Barnyard nose (manure?), in a good way. Medium palate impact, but a wonderful whiplash finish of custard and creme brulee. Nice wine, at perhaps its peak.

  • At Singer & Foy survey of '89 Raveneau. Good bright straw color. Nose is rich, opulent; best nose of the bunch. Wonderful palate; rich, full, opulent, expansive, buttery; just GREAT. Long on the palate, and a long finish. 5-12-18-9: 94/100.
