I bought 2 bottles at an auction for little money out of curiosity. What a great buy. The color is still dark with a brown rim. The nose is a mixture between old Claret and Burgundy. Mature Cabernet notes, combined with earthy notes of the Burgundy - sweetness as well? It tastes also like a mature Bordeaux. The wines is still powerful with noticeable tannins but enough flavors to balance them. A great experience of a mature Italian red. Worth every drop. Even 5 hours after opening, the wine still holds up.

An excellent bottle of aged Italian wine -- perhaps the oldest Italian I have had. Overall, it reminded me of some similarly aged Bordeaux I have had. Very smooth, fully integrated with no edges whatsoever. Some fruit still hiding in there, but very nice "secondary" flavors.
There was some brett at opening (or some type of funky taste). I did not decant it, but I did let it breathe for 5 hours, and this was important. Over time, it really smoothed out and opened up. At first, I thought it might have turned, but over time, it became very nice.
I cannot see any reason to hold any longer.

4 Mini Vertical Tastings (Sammarco, Togni, Conseillante, Palmer) (MG): Nicely developed nose. Still has some cherry fruit left and some finegrained tannins. Shows lots of development with cedar wood and manure.
Good acidity and complexity but a short finish.

Wine Flock Dinner (Caro Mio - Chicago, IL): Showing well at this age. Leather, green olive. Subtle aromas and drinking beautifully overall.
Long finish. Elegant.
