Opened an hour before pouring. Ruby core, garnet/tawny edge. Fennel/peppery nose that became more perfumed over time with a touch of gaminess. Still, this was a poster child for stem inclusion aromas. Medium weight with a silky feel despite substantial tannins remaining. Black fruit and herbs predominate at first, but then some softer faded strawberry emerges. Not at all like most sweeter styled 1990's. This one still has a long way to go. Excellent, amazingly youthful, poised, balanced, and on the cusp of being truly harmonious, but somehow it does not produce the visceral thrill that one seeks at this level.
Very impressive, positive development overnight in the recorked bottle. The stemminess has receded somewhat to reveal sexy smokiness and iron on the nose. If anything, the fruit is sweeter, citric acidity stronger, and there are both spice and a deep earthy base that I really did not appreciate last night. OK, it took 24 hours, but now this has won me over. I suppose the message is to give it more air than I originally did or hold for at least another 5 years.

Wax capsule. Double decanted about an hour before pour at Boy's Burgundy lunch. Rich, elegant and balanced. Wonderful, mature. In a line up of great wines, this was second only to the 85 Rousseau Chambertin.
