2000 Lunch (Old Bazaar Kitchen): 0659/1462. Opened two hours prior, not enough air! Signature linear Leroy aromatics, vintage acidity beautifully expressed, hue of dark earthy notes. All fireworks up and down. 93+

Dark smoky red color with nearly full transparency. Aromas of strawberry, mushroom, leather, tobacco, and cherry. Palate has porcini mushroom, strawberry, meat, and leather that carry into a medium-long finish. This has a herbal spice note that carries it to a floral character with time open. Delicate and meaty at the same time. Winemaking trumps site here and what winemaking it is. Delicious. Drink.

Smoky garnet color with some lightening at the rim. Sweet red fruits, smoke, leather, and licorice on the nose. Cherry and strawberry intertwined with black licorice and leather on the initial palate attack. This transforms to include stony and floral elements. The structure here is delicate and solid at the same time. Delivers "Leroy-ness" but is no longer a primary, showy experience. Drinking well and will likely hold for some years at this level. Stuffing does not appear to be there for long-term improvement, but this could be an interesting old wine in a leafy/meaty/mushroomy way. Drink or hold.
