  • FWSG tasting. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance pale intensity, garnet colour, fine sediments. Legs.
Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of brown autumn leaves, forest floor, tertiary earth, sweet tea leaves, dried red cherry, some purple fruit, floral violets, potpourri, stony minerality. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), gritty though generally still melt-in-your-mouth resolved tannin, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet tea leaves, earth, autumn forest floor, dried red cherries, minerals. Fading medium finish.
Very good quality - for the nose - superbly complex. Palate isn't bad, but unfortunately doesn't match up. Fruit drying up and fading in general.
Grand Cru level for me. But based on this bottle, I would say drinker sooner than later.

  • HDH Burgundy Auction; 5/17/2019-5/18/2019 (Chicago, IL): Mildly funky, a slight bit of wet cardboard, but the TCA doesn't seem to show on the palate. Kind of dirty and backwards, rustic, and typical of the era -- tastes like the old reputation of Faiveley.

  • This is still so young, but it's very pretty, living up to its pedigree and the vintage. Initially reticent nose that opened up to reveal pretty red cherry, minerals, flowers, and deep earth notes. In the mouth, incredibly youthful, with loads of life in it, velvety mouth feel, and great purity. This is a very masculine Burgundy, with power behind the red fruit profile, loads of spice, forest floor, and minerality. The acidity is powerful, too. And the tannins are still flexing a bit on the finish. This has years and years ahead of it. Delicious and very pleasant, if still somewhat tightly wound. It's a more traditionally styled wine. A-
