  • Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center with clear rims. The medium intensity nose showed apple cider and citrus at first. However, after it had aired for several hours the apple cider receded and ginger and white stone developed.

This wine was rich and ripe and had a great mouthfeel. It had fantastic balance and fine grained acidity.

This wine seemed young. It did not have my favorite flavor profile but it may well pick up a point or so with 5 years in the cellar.

  • From a good looking bottle, this wine had a yellow center and clear rims. It was pretty reserved on the nose and watery on the palate for several hours. Afterward, the medium intensity nose showed lemon, apple, vanilla, and some white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with outstanding balance and very good length. After hour 6 of air it developed attractive acidity and minerality.

While does this did not have the power and complexity of a great vintage, it was well made. Despite the fact that it was almost 25 years old, this still looked and tasted somewhat young. Overall, it came across as a quality Premier Cru.

While this will last for many years, I doubt this will improve from here. Drink at your leisure.

  • Nose was interesting and very attractive with floral and richness.
Palate was rich, evolved as the meal went on and the last glass was probably the best.
That said this was older tasting than we would have expected. The providence was excellent so we wonder if it was slightly affected by premox.

  • Burgundy Wine Club Dinner 2013 (The Breslin, NYC): This is a silly thing to say, in a way, but this wine was disappointing in the context of the two previous vintages I've had. This one was marked by a bit of botrytis, and took a very long time - 3 hours maybe, to open up an reveal the complexity that I expect from a wine of this stature. And it never really got to the level of the '88 or the superb '89. Still, this is fine and compelling wine, with finesse and class, and that lovely roundness to the flavors that really draws you in. Had it been the first Montrachet for me, I think I would have emerged as a skeptic. Now, I see it as a great wine that doesn't achieve the heights it achieved in other vintages.

  • Some notes on the nose of volatile acidity or sois bois... But on the palate this was very pleasing and amazingly dense. Had a sweetness and yet also complexity plus great length.
