I've had many vintages of Shafer port and I always enjoy it. That being said, this vintage is one of the weaker ones. 2000 was not a very fruity vintage to begin with and that shows in this port with the Brandy dominated nose. It redeems itself on the pallet with smooth and slightly sweet caramel and cherries with no bite at the end. Enjoy it now or hold shorter term.

Decanted for about 1 hour before drinking. Drank over the next day or two. Pretty, deep dark ruby colored. Notes of pipe tobacco, cherries, with a nice smoothness overall. Good finish. Nice wine that I have had a number of times throughout various vintages. It is always a nice wine.

I am not a big port drinker...but we brought this back from a visit to the vineyard and opened it for after dinner Scrabble! Vibrant color and nose that was rounded in taste...not overly sweet, but a very pleasing sipper with conversation.

Nice and smooth but lacks complexity.

Holiday's with Pam's family; 12/20/2005-12/25/2005 (East Lansing, Michigan): Deep, opaque color with scents of dried cherry. The body is full and round with a lingering finish. Very enjoyable.
