  • Brick in color. Nose still has a lot of red fruit.
There is something missing or more likely gone here. Bright red fruit is out there but there is nothing else. It must be flawed.
    Disappointing

  • Not at all profound, but still a lovely wine.

  • (Blind tasting)
Medium-fullish nose at first rich and warm with toasty notes of coffee and plum. After a while a bit tired with earth, damp cellar and roots.
Medium-fullish palate with soft tannins and a slight lack of fruit. A bit astringent. On the positive: Very old-school Bdx. Balanced and also quite elegant. Better 5 years ago. Drink up.

  • Solid and spicy, this is an old school style of Pomerol that eschews opulent merlot fruit in favour of something more savoury. Compared against a 2007 of this wine tasted recently, which was rather lighter on its feet, it would seem as though the oak regime has been toned down from the mid-90s as this had a dense, grainy, oak built structure around its blackberry and plum fruit. Although this clearly lacks finesse, if I had it in my cellar I would be quite happy to drink it up with something suitably stolid and English like beef wellington.

  • Wild mushroom tart and roasted pork loin 1/28/11, Bon Vivant, Palo Alto. Popped and poured. Nothing much OTN right away, whiff of cigar box and cedar, eventually. In the mouth, some mild berry/cherry without much depth. By last glass, mouthfeel more velvety, more fruity, better finish. Nice, but not special. I'd drink my other ones sooner than later.
