Wow. Fill at bottom neck. Leaked once as foil was sealed tight. Cork soft and slippery.
Amazing nose of old Cali cab. As good as it gets. Still with plenty of fruit and acid balance. Most guessed late 80's. 60 second finish. Improved over 3 hours in bottle. The last pour was the best.

Shockingly good. Bought 8 years ago for $35 - just because. Opened as part of a vertical, thought I'd start with this 40 year old. My sister in law reinforced she was born in 1974. Very light but vibrant color. The nose was red roses. And the ethereal taste was filled with Indian spices of cardamom and cinnamon.

First Tuesday Wine Group Annual Dinner. Wow! I never would have expected this wine to have so much life in it. No sign of lightening at the edges. Tons of spicy fruit, cassis, eucalyptus, cedar and mint. It just screamed "Napa" to me, although I know it's a Sonoma wine. Who says California cabs don't age well? There's no way this wine was this good upon release. It hasn't really developed secondary flavors; rather, the primary ones have just integrated and become more complex with time. Great body, and a long finish. This wine is certainly mature, but it's in great shape. I would imagine well stored bottles could keep for a couple more years - there's certainly enough fruit and structure left.

1974 California Tasting (Cafe Boulud): Soft and fruity. Prunes and licorice. A little green with mature notes. 1974 Cali Cab tasting.
