A great producer of course. At 14 years this remains dark powerful and based on this bottle has plenty of life left. Old vines (1920's) and it shoes. Deep flavours, real length. , great nose. Tremendous.
Dinner with Karen and Eric at Il Fornaio, Carmel. Tasted against the Linne Calodo Cherry Red, which made for tough competition. An almost 10-year-old Zin that sends out a rebuttal to those who think Turleys -- or Zins -- don't age well. This was very tasty, with the years having sanded off the corners of this always dependable wine. A bit funky out of the bottle, but then the fruit blooms, with blackberries and ripe cranberries making appearances, with fresh black licorice bringing up the rear. A little heat in the finish, and throwing some sediment. The label notation reminds us this was bottled the year of the big Paso Robles area earthquake (6.5 Richter) in which many wineries (incl. Turley) lost quite a few barrels and bottles. Glad this one survived.
