Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 93 points

  • Color: Almond
Nose: Oak aging of the Sauvignon Blanc very evident on nose - almost overpowering. Hints of sandalwood, 'Holiday scents' & sea.
Palate: One of the most complex wines we've had - smooth but can taste the slight tartness of a Sauvignon Blanc. Oak aging prominent giving it a smooth taste from start to finish. Very well balanced.
Overall: Outstanding wine - but couldn't drink a lot of it in one sitting. Expensive but worth it ($59.53 @ vineyard in 2004)

  • From a bottle labeled "For Sample Only", this wine is from some of the oldest known sauvignon blanc vines in the United States. Labeled as having 14.2 alcohol, it had a steely clear color a bit like a riesling. Showed strong minerals and a bit of oak on the nose. Palate showed a medium-full body with minerals and a smooth, long lasting finish. This bottles shows that there are treasures on the Mondavi property. (Tasted at the Chowhound Feldmanfest dinner @ China Village).
