Very interesting experience, this wine. Lacked integration at first - wonderful aromas of plums, currant, spice - but mostly alcohol in the mouth. Like grappa with a little wine added. After an hour or so it was more integrated - some earthiness and meatiness came through as well. It ultimately paired well with a radichio and calamari salad AND a chevre ravioli.
Very red color, mostly clear, medium body. Nose is mostly floral, less fruit and caramel. Agree with the last note, fruit has mostly faded from this, though if you hang with it long enough you get a sense of what it once was on the finish. Drink them if you still have them.
Well, it hides most of its alcohol well. Very dark. Black currants, cinnamon, tosted oak. Viscous, red fruit morphing into blackberry jam and vanilla with a little bitterness/pips on the finish. Hard to believe, but this balanced. Wow.
